About online journals (1/2):

Ever since men invented writing, people have been registering what happens in their lives. Some at the end of their lives or when they reached a high point in their existence in the form of autobiographies and others while it happened in the form of logs, diaries and journals.

An autobiography usually is written when the person thinks he's important enough to leave a written legacy. Diaries and the like however are usually kept because the writer thinks he'll benefit from it. Some because they are able to order their thoughts through writing, others because they want to be able to look back and reflect on the past and another for yet other reasons. The reasons are probably as diverse as the people who write them are.

Many of these writings by are kept hidden and tucked away, never to reach the public eye. The Internet changed that.

By writing a daily account and publishing it the same day or after a few days, people are creating a day to day account of their lives that's accessible for others.
